Roka-mon Gate: Part of a Passageway in the Sky?!

This gate had an additional floor on top that was used to intercept approaching enemies. And it was connected to a passageway between the Goten (the castle lord’s residence) on the main level and the Omote-shoin (place of feudal affairs) on the middle level one level lower. This floor was also used as a passageway exclusively for the lord of the castle, thus it was given the name Roka-mon, which translates to “corridor gate”. It was rebuilt in 1966.
